The CDU of Saxony-Anhalt, overshadowed by a technical glitch, determined its top candidate on Saturday. At a party conference in Dessau-Roßlau, the delegates voted 94.9 percent in favor of Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff. After 2011 and 2016, the 67-year-old is going into the state election campaign for the third time as the top candidate of his party.
During Haseloff’s speech, the CDU struggled with technical problems. Due to the corona pandemic, the party congress will take place without the press and other guests and will be broadcast via a video live stream. However, the video and audio signal broke off after a short time – of all things during the application speech of the designated top candidate.
The party congress management had planned 15 minutes speaking time for Haseloff, the topic of the speech was “My way for Saxony-Anhalt”. Ideas for the next legislative period were expected. However, the stream broke off after a few sentences and could not be started until the end of the speech.
The CDU member of the Bundestag Sepp Müller played the ball back and half seriously blamed digitization minister Armin Willingmann (SPD) for the breakdown. “Please give us a line again,” tweeted Müller. (mz)
