The world is tired of pandemics, and so are the Germans. “Of course, people want the path to what we perceive as normal to slowly become visible again.” This is how Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier puts it. Politicians now have to illuminate this path. After long weeks of lockdowns and renunciation, longing and impatience increase.

Government spokesman Steffen Seibert promises a cautious prospect of easing, despite the feared third corona wave: “One must not forget that the first wave of opening is already rolling – with schools in a number of countries – daycare centers, but also garden centers, hardware stores, etc. The n in March the hairdressing salons will be added. ”
More self-tests – especially for three areas
All of that means more mobility. And more mobility means more contacts. This in turn leads to more contagion and worry lines among the Chancellor. She expressed herself internally in the CDU presidium and, according to the participants, advertised a package in order to carefully make openings possible.
Part of this package should be more self-tests. It should apply to the areas of “personal contacts”, “schools” and also “sport, restaurants and culture”. According to government spokesman Steffen Seibert, there is a reason for the caution: “Whatever we open up, we want to persevere. Any loosening that has to be taken back and followed by the closings is something nobody can want Countries, to find measure and center on this way. ”
The R value, which indicates how many an infected person is infected, is now above 1. And the mutations are spreading. “This increase suggests that this will continue, and that is exactly what we have to keep in mind when we think about the next steps,” said Seibert.
FDP for “a signal of hope”
The Free Democrats welcome the fact that the Chancellor is now a step-by-step plan to relax and step out of the Want to submit lockdown. ”
Söder: Millions of rapid tests for Germany – every day
Before the conference of the state heads of government with the Chancellor on Wednesday, the SPD-led states have already presented a “cluster plan” – as a basis for the debate. It provides opening steps for certain incidence values: at an incidence of 50 and below, for example, sport should be allowed again at a certain distance.
Rapid tests play a crucial role. Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder also advocates this: “One of these rapid tests is particularly that we need millions of these rapid tests for Germany. Every day.”
The quick tests are also the subject of the Prime Minister’s Conference (MPK) next Wednesday. The negotiations will be tough – the outcome is completely open. CDU General Secretary Paul Ziemiak can at least announce one certainty in these uncertain times: “This will not be the last MPK, certainly not.”
