The nice weather on the weekend in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania attracted many people to go on excursions outdoors. The police checked whether the corona rules were being observed. Many drivers had to turn around.
The focus of the police checks was on the current entry restrictions, as many day trippers – also from other federal states – were to be expected due to the warm and sunny weather. Traffic was observed in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in particular.
The district is Corona high-risk area. Anyone who does not live in the district is only allowed to stay there with a valid reason.
Roads to Usedom in the view of the police
On Saturday, the officers checked the access roads to the island of Usedom in Wolgast and Ueckermünde, stopping over 300 vehicles, 50 of which were turned back. On Sunday, the police continued to check inland. By noon, 15 of the 80 cars checked had been turned away. Last weekend, the rush on the island was so great that the driveways were temporarily closed.
Flash mob out of control in Kühlungsborn
In other regions along the coast, the police also ensured compliance with the corona rules. Among other things, day trips from other federal states to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are not allowed. In and around Boltenhagen alone, over 600 wagons were checked at the weekend, around 90 of them were asked to turn back. In Kühlungsborn, a harmless flash mob of line dancers got out of hand on Sunday. First of all, the police were able to inform the 100 or so participants about distance rules. But then around 400 onlookers gathered to see the flash mob.
