A 29-year-old man is likely to have stabbed his partner in Vienna-Favoriten early Tuesday morning. The case is particularly tragic because the police were at the victim’s home only hours before the crime.
The 28-year-old woman had already notified the police on Monday evening because she was beaten by her partner in a dispute. When the officers arrived at the apartment, the man, a 29-year-old Austrian citizen, was no longer there. He must have hit the woman and pushed her to the ground.
The woman received first aid from the Vienna professional rescue service and was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The police used several radio vehicles to look for the partner in the surrounding streets in order to interrogate him and to issue a ban on entering and approaching him. The police also looked for him in his apartment in Vienna-Meidling, but the search was unsuccessful.
At around 5.30 a.m., he rang the doorbell at the address in Favoriten for a relative of the woman who lived in the same house as the 28-year-old. He told him he had stabbed the young woman. The relative then called the executive.
The alarmed emergency services found the lifeless woman in the apartment, the Vienna professional rescue could only determine the death of the victim. The man was arrested on site by the police without resistance. The murder weapon – a knife – was seized.
The State Criminal Police Office took over the investigation. For example, it was unclear whether the 28-year-old had been discharged from the hospital that night or whether she had left the hospital at her own request. Most of all, the investigators were interested in the motif. The y hoped for more information on this from the questioning of the suspect. It was also unclear how the suspect and the victim exactly related to one another.
