With the entry of the social network into the booming smartwatch business, the Swiss watch industry runs the risk of being left even more behind.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg goes under the watchmaker. As reported by the online portal “ The Information”, the California social network is working on its own smartwatch. The device should allow the company’s own short message services such as Messenger and Whatsapp to be used easily on the wrist.
The most important difference to the competing products will be that Facebook’s new watch automatically connects to the cellular network. The re is therefore no need for a connection to the smartphone, as is the case with the Apple Watch. A first version of Facebook’s smartwatch is slated to hit the market next year. In terms of price, it should be cheaper than the product from market leader Apple.
