Talk at Republican Event
Trump plans first appearance as ex-president
Former US President Donald Trump has planned his first public appearance after leaving the White House. Since Saturday Trump has been on the list of speakers at the annual CPAC conference – an event organized by conservative activists.
He wanted to talk there on February 28, among other things, about the future of the Republican Party, reported the news channel CNN and the “New York Times”. Other topics are migration and the “catastrophic politics” of his successor Joe Biden, it was said from the Trump environment.
The speakers announced include former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former US Ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, and former White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Trump clearly lost the November 3 presidential election to Democrat Biden. But for weeks he braced himself against being voted out of office with unfounded accusations of fraud, thus plunging the USA into a deep political crisis. His tenure ended on January 20th when Biden was sworn in.
Since then, the Republican Party has divided a political dispute that Trump is actively fueling. Many politicians in the moderate camp want to break with the right-wing populist. In large parts of the party and among the grassroots, the 74-year-old is still very popular. Most recently, Trump openly attacked the top Republican in the US Senate, his former ally Mitch McConnell.
