The  German pianist and well-known Richard Wagner explainer Stefan Mickisch suddenly died on Friday at the age of 58, as confirmed by a family member according to the “Mittelbayerische Zeitung”.

Mickisch was born in 1962 in Schwandorf, Germany. He started playing the piano at the age of four. In 1969 he gave his first public concert in Waldmünchen. A year later he started playing the violin and organ. He won several times at “Jugend musiziert”. From 1982 to 1987 he studied piano at the Hanover University of Music and from 1986 to 1991 at the Vienna Conservatory. In 2019 he celebrated the year of his 50th stage anniversary. On this occasion he organizes his own “festival” in his Kronstetten villa, where he also recorded some of his CDs. From 1991 to 2018 he produced 65 CDs and DVDs. He had extensive knowledge, especially about Richard Wagner, which he used especially for his popular introductory matinees at the Bayreuth Wagner Festival.

Most recently Mickisch pursued another Wagner project: from the end of April he should have helped establish Wagner in Finland at the Sibelius Academy Helsinki.

Unwanted in Bayreuth

In 2020 he described the federal government’s health policy as “corona fascism” and compared himself to Hans Scholl, a resistance fighter against the National Socialists. © www.de24.news The reupon Mickisch became an “undesirable person” in the Villa Wahnfried, where he organized the matinees.

Mickisch leaves his wife behind. He would like to be buried in Vienna at his own request.
