Stricter corona measures come into force in Flensburg

NAfter the tightened corona measures came into force in Flensburg, the police initially found no violations on Saturday.  The  officials are increasingly on foot in the city area, said a spokesman. Despite the sunny weather, the people of Flensburg adhered to the contact restrictions.  The  stricter control of the border with Denmark did not lead to any problems in traffic between the two countries on Saturday, said a spokeswoman for the Danish police.

Due to the rapidly spreading coronavirus variants, corona measures have been tightened again since midnight.  The re is a nightly curfew between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Visits to the doctor, trips to work or even walks with the dog are also allowed during this time.

Previously possible meetings between a household and another person are no longer permitted.  The re are exceptions for visits to a hospital or a care facility, for couples living separately and children of separated parents, and for caring for relatives and neighbors in need.

 The  regulations initially apply until Friday.

 The  number of infections in Flensburg has increased significantly since mid-January.

 The  cause is assumed to be the spread of variant B.1.1.7 discovered in Great Britain. According to the city, the 7-day incidence on Saturday was 193. According to the Robert Koch Institute, this was the seventh highest value in the German urban and rural districts. For the whole of Schleswig-Holstein, the Ministry of Social Affairs gave an incidence of 50.4 on Friday.

 The  target for the first opening steps is 35 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in 7 days.

Denmark responded to the corona situation in Flensburg by closing several small border crossings to Germany. In Denmark, the number of new infections has recently decreased significantly despite a high proportion of the British mutant.
