Availability: Worse than Bad
PCGH had closely monitored the availability of the RTX 30 series for three weeks since the beginning of the year.
The bottom line: not everything was bad.
The RTX 3090, for example, was relatively readily available and at prices that weren’t far from the recommended retail price – at least for some models.
The RTX 3070 was also still reasonably available, albeit at a rising price. With the RTX 3060 Ti and the RTX 3080, however, there was little to be gained – as early as January. This trend intensified in February and even reversed for the RTX 3070 and 3090.
The availability of both cards has fallen dramatically and the prices have increased dramatically “to compensate” (caution: irony). Even if they are only snapshots, the RTX 3070 (RRP: 520 euros) has increased by around 25 percent in the last four weeks (currently available from 989 euros!),
The RTX 3090 is even around 50 Percent (available from 2,299 euros). And we’re not even looking at something as exotic as the Zotac Gaming Geforce GTX 1660 SUPER Twin Fan, which is currently on sale for 1,291 euros – that’s no joke.
The market situation is a disaster, to put it mildly.

1,000 euros for an RTX 3070 in the end customer market, these are crazy prices. And even if the comparison may be poor, some people are probably thinking of the upcoming Aldi PC Medion Erazer Engineer X10. This costs 1,499 euros – and not only offers an (unknown) RTX 3070, but a full-fledged gaming PC with Core i7-10700 (without K), 32 GiByte RAM, 1,024 GByte SSD and in-win housing with glass window. Now it is of course naive to believe that Medion will buy its cards in the end customer market.
The refore, a comparison of the prices is relatively pointless. But it is just as naive to believe that Aldi is not making a profit with the Erazer Engineer X10. Out of sheer charity, the PC should not be offered for the price. So it is at least possible for PC builders to secure a significant number of graphics cards for a PC series in order to create competitive offers. In any case, the end customer currently has a disadvantage.
Will the situation with the Geforce RTX 3060 get better?
The entry-level amp was said to be too interesting for Kypto miners when it was announced. We have information that some board partners did not even plan to serve end customers. Instead, they have to provide the goods for mining ether and co. Nvidia probably got wind of these plans as well, shortly before the launch of the RTX 3060 it was announced that the hash rate would be artificially limited. With the other Geforce RTX 30 that are already on the market, this should not be so easy to implement.
The mood is so bad that PCGH is already being attacked on YouTube for new graphics card tests. As in the following test of the Gigabyte RX 6900 XT. Is that still healthy?
