Thousands of aftershocks in Japan since tsunami disaster

Even ten years after the tsunami disaster in northeastern Japan, the earth does not come to rest there.  The  Japanese newspaper “Nihon Keizai Shimbun” reported on Monday that there have been more than 14,000 aftershocks since the severe seaquake on March 11, 2011 with a magnitude of 9.0. Only recently had one of the strongest tremors since the disaster of ten years ago struck the region. At least 150 people were injured.

 The  tremor off the coast of Fukushima and Miyagi had a magnitude of 7.3 and was felt in Tokyo as well as in many other areas of Japan. According to the weather department, it was an aftershock of the severe earthquake from ten years ago, which triggered a tsunami at the time. 18,500 people died in the floods at the time, and a disaster occurred at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

Of the more than 14,000 aftershocks that have occurred as a result of this tremendous quake, 120 had a strength of 6 and ten a strength of over 7, the business newspaper reported. Experts also warn that the effects of the earthquake ten years ago are still not over. It is said that an earthquake like that with a magnitude of 9.0 occurs once every 1,000 years.
