Fantastic weather in the capital lured numerous people outside at the weekend. The police intensified their controls. But the corona distance rules were not always observed.
In the sunshine and spring-like temperatures, thousands of Berliners moved to the parks and nature on weekends. An estimated 1,800 people came to the Gardens of the World on Sunday lunchtime, a police spokesman said. In the Volkspark Friedrichshain there were even 2000. In the afternoon it could have been even more, they said.
According to the police, families mostly flocked to the parks. Young people played volleyball in the Volkspark. Joggers took advantage of the good weather, as did children who let off steam in playgrounds or ate an ice cream.

The weather stations of the German Weather Service in Tegel and Tempelhof reported temperatures of a good 16 degrees Celsius on Sunday afternoon. Sunshine and very mild air were also announced. Only a few thin veil clouds should cover the blue sky.

The police spokesman said on Sunday at noon that people had largely complied with the corona minimum distances. With more than 100 emergency services, the police carried out so-called “focus controls” in local recreation areas and parks: for example in Mauerpark, Görlitzer Park, in Hasenheide, on Tempelhofer Feld and at Park am Gleisdreieck.
The re were between 250 and 550 people in each of these parks.

In the afternoon, numerous young people sunbathed on the Admiral Bridge in Kreuzberg. Police officers then spoke to them personally, either to leave the place or to wear a mask, as observed by a dpa photographer.
The police spokesman also said that emergency services had asked for breaks on football and basketball courts in other places.
Motorcyclists meet on Spinner Bridge
Numerous bikers took to the streets on Sunday. Hundreds of them gathered on the Spinner Bridge on the Avus.
The police spoke of 300 to 350 motorcyclists. Violations of the Infection Protection Ordinance were also found there in isolated cases, it said. However, the officials did not have to intervene on a large scale.

The weather change had already lured many people in the capital outside on Saturday. In the Mauerpark people picnicked or climbed a climbing rock, and they took their dogs out at the popular Grunewaldsee. In Mitte, strollers rediscovered one of their favorite pastimes: selfies in front of the Brandenburg Gate.

A spokesman for the DWD explained the change in weather by saying that the large-scale air circulation had completely changed. Previously a high pressure area brought cold air from the Arctic over Scandinavia, now a low pressure area over the Atlantic means that Berlin and Brandenburg get warm air from the southwest.

According to the currently valid Corona rules, citizens in Berlin are required to reduce social contact with other people who do not belong to their own household to the “absolutely necessary minimum” and to only leave their own apartment for “valid reasons” . This includes, for example, individual quiet contemplation in churches, mosques or synagogues and exercise and sports outdoors.
