Thrasio strengthens its leading position in Europe with the acquisition of Bonstato and confirms its commitment to the acquisition of European e-commerce companies
BOSTON and BERLINFeb. 22, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Thrasio announced that it is expanding its recent € 200 million commitment to acquire German e-commerce companies to € 500 million to drive growth across Europe. The company pointed to a robust pipeline of recent European acquisitions, including Bonstato, a German private label incubator company known for its everyday products with a distinctive design standard and rave reviews.
The Bonstato deal demonstrates Thrasio’s unique strengths in taking a robust Amazon brand on board and getting its specialized teams to work immediately to optimize across multiple channels at the same time. At the time of purchase, Bonstato was generating 96% of its sales with Amazon. Thrasio has already diversified and launched products on the German and US marketplace that have become top sellers in their categories and the run-rate sales of the Germany-based direct-to-consumer (DTC) site have tripled.
The Thrasio teams also have localized affiliate marketing in the USA, a soon-to-be-launched US DTC site, and plans to bring high performing products to retail outlets, both in the USA as well as in Europe.
“With a team of over 700 and a total of over $ 1 billion raised in the last month alone, Thrasio is the only buyer in this space who is truly a global omnichannel machine,” says Ken Kubec, VP Acquisitions. “Scaling on all global Amazon marketplaces, DTC, retail and other sales channels is a challenge that requires special expertise that Thrasio has in-house. As the leading digital e-commerce acquirer and operator, we are creating an ‘everyone wins’ situation – sellers get more money through well-balanced incentives and their high quality products end up in the hands of even more consumers around the world. “
Bonstato-Miteigentümer Max Winkler, who recently became a father and wanted to slow down his professional life, says that he and co-owner Frank Petri were thrilled to find Thrasio and secure a lucrative exit. “Thrasio has been diligent and professional throughout the process.
The y clearly showed us the path to future growth, which convinced us of their operational excellence and the adjusted earnings we were aiming for. All of this was vindicated by the timely closing, smooth transition and the way the business continues to grow. “
“We are set up to cross borders,” adds Thrasio COO Stephanie Fox. “Entering new regions can be challenging for entrepreneurs, and one thing that sets Thrasio apart is our international infrastructure and scale, which drives growth for local teams in each location. Even something seemingly as simple as multilingual keyword optimization is inherently complicated and needs to take into account copyrights, legal complications, and a whole host of cultural nuances. We have the experience to do what it takes; we are rapidly expanding our international efforts, starting in Europe and expect to continue expanding globally. “
Bonstato is a German brand incubator with three individual brands and a wide range of products that are designed in downtown Munich: bonAMICO, which offers pet owners’ favorite products, including vehicle seat covers, pet beds, and grooming accessories; bonmedico, which sells ergonomic and orthopedic auxiliary products to promote a healthy lifestyle and relieve chronic pain; and bonVIVO, which offers a wide range of high quality furniture and home accessories, including tables, coffee / tea accessories and floor chairs.
The brand maintains a strong presence in the US market as well as in the EU.
