Former US President Donald Trump has suffered another defeat in the dispute over his withheld tax returns.  The  US Supreme Court on Monday dismissed Trump’s motion to block a handover of financial documents to the New York prosecutor’s office. ©

The  Supreme Court did not give a reason. Manhattan’s District Attorney Cyrus Vance said in a brief statement: “©

 The  work continues.”

Among other things, Vance wants to view Trump’s tax returns from 2011 to 2018 and has requested the documents from Trump’s accounting firm Mazars. However, the former president wants to prevent the public prosecutor from receiving the documents and has therefore gone to court.

Trump does not have “absolute immunity”

The  constitutional judges ruled that the then president did not enjoy “absolute immunity” from prosecution. ©

The  legal battles continued, however, and ended up again before the Supreme Court. This now decided again in favor of the public prosecutor.

Vance had launched an investigation into suspected hush money payments to the porn actress Stormy Daniels and a former “Playboy” model, who said they had affairs with Trump years ago. Court documents suggest that the investigations are now much broader: Accordingly, there is also suspicion of banking and insurance fraud at the Trump Organization, in which Trump’s business activities are bundled.

The  real estate entrepreneur is extremely cautious about his finances, which repeatedly leads to suspicions that he has something to hide. Trump was the first president since Richard Nixon (1969 to 1974) to refuse disclosure of his tax returns.
