Niederau – A family outing ended on Saturday afternoon in Niederau in the Wildschönau with a tragic accident: A two-year-old crashed into a wooden fence with full force and remained motionless.
The toddler was out and about with his parents at the mountain station of the Markbachjochbahn at around 4.40 p.m. and drove a plastic children’s bobsleigh down the roughly four-degree slope in the currently closed ski area.
The boy’s 38-year-old father ran sideways next to his son, trying to slow him down again and again. On the hard snow surface, however, the vehicle became faster and faster, so that it was no longer possible for the father to run fast enough to stay at the height of his son.
Because of the slope on the side of the slope, the boy came to ever steeper terrain. He drove unrestrained around 250 meters along the 30 degree steep terrain until he finally hit a wooden fence pillar in the area of a forest path and remained motionless. The parents immediately placed an emergency call and began first aid measures. After the first aid, the two-year-old with serious injuries was flown to the clinic in Innsbruck in the NAH Heli 3.
