The only difference is that there was no longer any money in the worn wallet that appeared behind a locker at the research station on Ross Island in Antarctica.
The pensioner could not even remember the loss of the wallet, reported the “San Diego Union-Tribune” on Saturday.
Find already took place in 2014
Grisham had worked as a meteorologist on Ross Island in a research station from October 1967 to November 1968. When this was dismantled in 2014, the wallet suddenly appeared behind a locker.
The veteran was overwhelmed by the efforts of the volunteers who had helped find the rightful owner of the wallet. For example, the head of a research group in Antarctica had contacted a former employee who had previously located a former marine in another case.
Wallet over 50 years old still in good condition
Grisham had been a member of a veterans’ foundation. It was through this foundation that contact was finally made with the Association of Marine Meteorologists. This led to the wallet finally being returned to its owner after 53 years.
The 91-year-old finally got the well-preserved wallet back last week, it said.
