WARNING of new scams (deposit fraud)

Incident time: since January 2021 Incident location: Vienna

Vienna (OTS) In the course of investigations by the criminal department of the Tannengasse police station, a new scam of bail fraud was discovered. © www.de24.news The  method:

© www.de24.news The  suspect searches for sales offers via internet platforms, such as cell phones, televisions or laptops at a sales price of around € 1,500 to € 1,600. © www.de24.news The n a female suspect reports to the sellers under the name “Sara” and negotiates the price up or down. So far, the woman has always negotiated the sales price at exactly € 1,560. © www.de24.news The  seller’s bank details (victim 1) are then transmitted for transferring the sales price.

At the same time, the suspect is offering rental apartments under the guise of a real estate front company (“Immobilien GmbH”) via various internet platforms. A deposit of € 1,560.00 is required for the property. © www.de24.news The  bank details of the first seller (victim 1) are given as the account for the transfer. In addition, the transfer should be carried out for “faster processing” of the real estate business without a purpose. © www.de24.news The  payer is the second victim. After the payment has been made, the suspect or an accomplice picks up the object of sale from victim 1.

As a result of this “triangle game”, the suspect receives a high-priced item (cell phone, television, etc.) that he can sell.

Without knowing it, the seller of the item (victim 1) evidently becomes the contributor due to the transfer of the exact amount of the deposit. © www.de24.news The  object of sale was handed over for the agreed price, but because of the transfer without a purpose, this person seems to be involved in the fraud at first glance.

© www.de24.news The  second victim transferred a deposit of € 1,560 for a property that did not exist.

At present, twelve completions and three attempts with a damage sum of € 18,720.00 have been reported in Vienna. © www.de24.news The  Viennese police assume a higher number of unreported cases. Other victims of fraud can report to any police station. © www.de24.news The  investigation is proceeding swiftly.

© www.de24.news The  Viennese police appealed to the population:

  • Make your fellow human beings and those around you aware of this scam.
  • Do not make transfers without a purpose.
  • View potential rental properties before paying a deposit.
  • Try to memorize the appearance of the person for a later description of the person.
  • If possible, make a note of the license plate number, make, type and color of a suspected perpetrator vehicle.
  • Report this to the next police station immediately.
