Naomi is (almost) at the top again in the ranking
22.02.2021|12:30 pm|by Björn Walter
In Melbourne, Naomi Osaka shone with the beautiful trophy for the winner. But not only the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup put a smile on the face of the newly crowned Australian Open Queen. The success is also noticeable in the WTA ranking.
Ashleigh Barty continues to occupy this position. Despite her quarter-final defeat in the home Grand Slam, the Australian still has a comfortable 1,351 point lead over Osaka. Serena Williams can also look up again. The 39-year-old tennis legend improved from eleventh to seventh thanks to her participation in the semi-finals.
Kerber and Co. are losing ground
The surprise semi-finalist from the Czech Republic jumps from 27th to 22nd.
For the German women, on the other hand, things did not go as desired in the first major of the year. Only Mona Barthel was able to move up 27 positions to 185th in the rear. Angelique Kerber, on the other hand, fell from 25th to 26th place. Laura Siegemund was down five steps.
The 32-year-old Swabian is now ranked 54th.
