100,000 new corona infections in Germany per day? Karl Lauterbach does not rule that out

RKI fears horror corona numbers in the third wave

Many countries are hesitant to apply the Corona emergency brake

According to the RKI, everything indicates that the third wave could be significantly worse than the first and second. From the point of view of infection protection, a tougher lockdown is now necessary than in spring 2020. But instead of tightening, many federal states are currently planning opening steps.

Lauterbach: “We as politicians also have the responsibility”

Lauterbach thinks little of it. “We have to get the situation under control,” he said in an interview. The numbers will continue to rise, he says. “There are currently many people on the road who cannot imagine that an inadvertent situation will make them seriously ill and possibly be threatened with death or chronic illness,” he explains. That must be averted. “We as politicians also have a responsibility.”

The RKI reported 21,573 new corona cases. That’s almost 4,100 more than a week ago. The seven-day incidence rose to 119.1 from 113.3 on Thursday. 183 other people died who tested positive.
