The Japanese Yuzuru Hanyu has his second figure skatingWM-Title clearly missed in the end since 2017. When he got his last triple axel, he was already cheering on the ice. For his freestyle he received 222.03 points alone, which is over 30 points more than the second best in the freestyle (Kagiyama).

After finishing third in the short program, his strong freestyle was a challenge to the leading Japanese. Neither Hanyu nor Kagiyama could counter.

Hanyu and Kagiyama with mistakes

Hanyu lost his eight-point lead over the dramatic music “Ten to chi to” from the film “Heaven and Earth” with mistakes in the fourfold Rittberger and the fourfold Salchow already at the beginning of his freestyle. With two more clean quadruple jumps, Hanyu saved third place, but in the end he was more than 31 points short of the title and Chen.

Hanyu’s compatriot Kagiyama showed in his program with four quadruple jumps, among other things, mistakes in the triple Axel and triple Rittberger. But the 17-year-old was allowed to come along WM-Silver his first medal after silver at the juniorWM Cheer 2020.

Russian Kolyada becomes best European

In a high-class final with consistently top performances in the group of the best six, the Japanese Shoma Uno came fourth (277.44 points).
