The US group Amazon wants to hire 5,000 new employees in Germany this year.

This should increase their number by over a fifth – from 23,000 to 28,000, as the German Amazon company announced on Friday in Munich.

We are looking for employees for the shipping centers, marketing, finance and research and development, among other things. How many new employees are being sought for the respective areas, Amazon did not say.

In Germany, the group operates four research and development centers in Aachen, Berlin, Dresden and Tübingen. Last year, Amazon had hired a six-digit number of new employees worldwide; at the end of December, almost 1.3 million people were working for the company worldwide.

The rapid growth can also be seen in the German business figures. According to the annual report of the US parent company, Amazon achieved sales of almost 29.6 billion US dollars in Germany in 2020 – a jump of over 30 percent compared to the 22.2 billion dollars in 2019. Amazon had not given sales figures for Germany for a long time in the past.

Amazon stocks are currently losing 0.26 percent to $ 3,038.44 in NASDAQ trading.
