At the debut of the new coach Dimitrios Grammozis, the Royal Blues missed the victory they had hoped for – and not only that.
Even before the kick-off, the coach had to cope with the first bad news when Amine Harit injured herself while warming up and had to be replaced by Can Bozdogan.
As the Royal Blues reported on Twitter, the Moroccan was a muscular injury. “We tried to work with our doctor on the problems of Amine. Then we decided that it just couldn’t be done,” said Grammozis after the game. “That was a real shame for us because over the last two days Amine has given the feeling that he is really looking forward to the game. We were missing a man of his quality.”
Kolasinac out, Mustafi holds out
In the 78th minute, the game was over for captain Sead Kolasinac. The left-back, who played against Mainz on the six, grabbed his thigh and had to leave the field.
In the closing stages, Shkodran Mustafi also seemed to have hamstring problems, but the newcomer bit his teeth and ended the game on the pitch.

The Schalke hospital was jam-packed even before the relegation duel: The long-term injuries in the Royal Blues also include Mark Uth, Matija Nastasic, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Gonçalo Paciencia, Steven Skrzybski, Salif Sané and Kilian Ludewig.
Last Sunday, in addition to head coach Christian Gross, assistant trainer Rainer Widmayer, coordinator of licensed players’ department Sascha Riether and sports director Jochen Schneider, fitness boss Werner Leuthard was also dismissed.
