Uefa does not rate the incidents in the CL group game on December 8, 2020 in the Prinzenpark as racism. Nevertheless, the governing body will withdraw the referee involved in this game, the Romanian Sebastian Coltescu, due to “inappropriate behavior” by June 30, 2021.
The match between the French champions PSG and the Turkish club was canceled following a red card against Basaksehir’s assistant coach Pierre Webo. Coltescu, acting as the fourth official, is said to have racially insulted Webo when he was sent off.
Protest action and replay
The referee team from Romania defended themselves by saying that Coltescu had used the Romanian word for black (“negru”) and not the disrespectful term “negro”.
Both teams had left the pitch in protest. A day later, Paris won the game 5-1. The incident had caused quite a stir and led to numerous expressions of solidarity.
