BAG reports new coronavirus cases within 24 hours in 1923


On Tuesday a week ago, the BAG had reported 1844 new coronavirus infections within 24 hours.
The positivity rate for the past two weeks was 5.4 percent. In the same period, 262.4 laboratory-confirmed coronavirus infections were reported per 100,000 inhabitants. The reproduction number R, which indicates the average number of people infected by an infected person, was 1.19 around ten days ago. The utilization of the intensive care units in the hospitals is currently 66.1 percent. 17.4 percent of these beds are occupied by Covid 19 patients.
A total of 1,742,075 vaccine doses had been delivered to the cantons and Liechtenstein by Sunday evening. Of these, 1,436,996 doses were administered. 535,250 people are already fully vaccinated. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 5,968,525 tests have been carried out in Switzerland and Liechtenstein for Sars-CoV-2, the causative agent of the respiratory disease Covid-19, according to the FOPH. There were a total of 598,713 laboratory-confirmed cases of infection with the coronavirus.
So far, 35,403 cases of the mutated variants of the coronavirus have been discovered in Switzerland. 13,165 related to the British variant (B.1.1.7), 240 to the South African (B.1.351) and 12 to the Brazilian (P.1). 21986 cases could not be clearly assigned to any variant.
So far, 25,012 people have had to be treated in hospital for a Covid 19 disease. The number of deaths in connection with Covid 19 disease was 9,662. According to the BAG, 15,004 people were in isolation and 25,601 people were in quarantine due to contact tracing. In addition, there were 3,293 people in quarantine who had returned from a risk country.
