Broken handlebar at van der Poel
04.03.2021 | (rsn) – The German bike manufacturer Canyon has asked its customers to stop using the Aeroad CF, SLX and CFR models until further notice. This is how the Koblenz team react to an incident at the Belgian spring classic Le Samyn, when Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin – Fenix) broke off part of the handlebars in the final while driving at full speed.
“Luckily Mathieu didn’t fall. We want to ensure with absolute certainty that nobody is harmed until we have fully understood what leads to this phenomenon, ”said Canyon founder Roman Arnold, explaining the step. All professional teams will not use the new Aeroad models for the time being, it said. Instead, the previous models should be used again. In addition to Alpecin – Fenix, Canyon also equips the WorldTour team Movistar, among others.
“We are doing everything we can to equip the affected Aeroad models with a cockpit that meets both our and our customers’ demands for quality and safety 100 percent,” announced Canyon CEO Armin Landgraf.
