CDU leader Laschet calls for comprehensive reforms in Germany

North Rhine-Westphalia’s Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) has called for comprehensive reforms in Germany. “The pandemic has shown existing deficits as if under a magnifying glass,” said the CDU chief of “Welt am Sonntag”. It is necessary to change an administrative mindset from a hundred years ago.
“In Germany we are not as good as we should be and how we are perceived in the world,” emphasized Laschet. He demanded that in the next federal government there will not be many bodies responsible for the digitization of the country as before. A concentration “on a digital ministry with cross-sectional responsibility” is necessary in the federal government. “That will inevitably be a very powerful ministry,” said Laschet.
In addition, administrative processes and approval procedures would have to be shortened. “We need a really big reform project, a real federalism reform,” said Laschet. That must be tackled after the pandemic in the next election period.
