Container ship continues to block Suez Canal – SALZBURG24

The 400 meter long “Ever Given” ran aground on Tuesday due to strong winds (we reported). By late Friday afternoon, more than 200 ships were jammed on both sides of the canal, one of the most important waterways in the world.

USA send aid in Suez Canal

The US government would now like to participate in the floatation of the “Ever Given”. “We have equipment and capacities that most countries do not have. We will see how we can help here,” US President Joe Biden told reporters on Friday (local time) in Delaware. A government official said the Navy was ready to send a team of dredgers to the canal but was awaiting approval from local authorities.

Cargo ship runs aground

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA), which is the owner and operator of the canal, welcomed the offer of help from the USA and said Turkey would also send aid. “The towing operations require the availability of a number of supporting factors, including wind direction and tide, making them a complex technical process,” the agency said.

Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagemen (BSM), the company responsible for the technical management of the ship, confirmed that two additional tugs would arrive by Sunday to help with the rescue.
