The Corona emergency brake applies from Monday in 31 districts and independent cities in North Rhine-Westphalia. The state government announced on Friday evening that the NRW Ministry of Health had ordered this accordingly.
The regions affected include Cologne, Dortmund, the Aachen city region, the Mettmann district and the Siegen-Wittgenstein district. “These are the municipalities in which the 7-day incidence of new infections has been above 100 for at least three days in a row, according to the data published today by the State Center for Health,” explained the Ministry of Health.
The background is that North Rhine-Westphalia will not pull a nationwide Corona emergency brake from Monday, despite the rapidly increasing corona numbers. Only in municipalities with a weekly incidence of more than 100 shops, sports facilities and cultural institutions have to close.
Exceptions are possible
The affected districts and urban districts may allow exceptions for people with a daily negative quick test or self-test. However, these exceptional options must be coordinated with the Ministry of Health beforehand.
The city of Dortmund is taking this route, for example. It announced on Friday afternoon that it would present the country with “the draft general order to maintain trade in its current form”.
