Breakthrough in the Federal Council’s mass test strategy! As Alain Berset (48) announced in the SRF Saturday broadcast, Corona self-tests will be available to the population in pharmacies from April 7th. This removes another important hurdle for broader and more regular testing of the population. “Good quantities” should be available from the beginning of the next month. After that, it will be possible to receive self-tests faster and faster, said the Minister of Health.
A good two weeks ago, Swissmedic approved corona self-tests for use at home. A small revolution: because tests that are not evaluated in laboratories are actually forbidden in Switzerland. An exception was made for corona tests. In future, Mr and Mrs Swiss should be able to obtain five such self-tests per month free of charge in pharmacies.
“There are always shortages in a pandemic”
Berset justifies the fact that it has taken so long anyway by saying that there are always shortages in a pandemic. That’s why it takes a little time before everything works well. But that will be the case very quickly. Unfortunately, it is no longer enough before Easter. “But we’re a week ahead of schedule.”
In addition to the ongoing vaccination campaign, large-scale test campaigns are the second cornerstone of the Swiss corona strategy. The Federal Council hopes that this will be eased as soon as possible, which should at least partially enable a return to normality. (SDA / ste)
