Uniklinik Göttingen builds intensive care unit out of Containernok
One of the largest hospitals in Lower Saxony is expanding its corona station in an urgent procedure: 41 additional intensive care beds for Covid patients are being built at the Göttingen University Hospital. The new intensive care unit is being built in containers that are delivered by special heavy-duty transporters. There is not much to do after delivery: According to the clinic, 80 percent of the modules are already completed – including insulation, windows, technical pre-installations and floor coverings. The goal is to be finished with the construction in mid-April. The state of Lower Saxony and the federal government share the construction costs of 26.6 million euros.
The number of corona patients treated in Lower Saxony’s hospitals has so far been largely stable despite the increase in the number of infections. The value is currently below the high from January.
Biontech and Pfizer are now also testing the corona vaccine on younger children
After its competitors Moderna and AstraZeneca, the Mainz-based company BioNtech and its US partner Pfizer have also started testing their corona vaccine on younger children. “Together with our partner Biontech, we have administered a dose to the first healthy children in a global ongoing phase 1/2/3 study,” Pfizer told the AFP news agency. The clinical tests are intended to examine the safety, tolerability and effectiveness of the vaccine in children aged between six months and eleven years.
Nationwide incidence value rises to 119.1
The Robert Koch Institute reported 21,573 new infections nationwide in the morning. The seven-day incidence increases to 119.1 (previous day: 113.3). A week ago this value was 96. A total of 183 people last died within 24 hours in connection with Covid-19. This brings the number of reported deaths to 75,623.
One year of the corona pandemic: “The continued renunciation is exhausting for everyone”
Many people find themselves on an emotional roller coaster ride. Children and young people are also extremely stressed. How do we hold out in the long run? The child and youth psychiatrist Michael Schulte-Markwort believes that feelings of exhaustion are spreading.
MV summit advises on further steps in the corona crisis
The state government in Schwerin is discussing the next steps in the Corona crisis with representatives of municipalities, social associations, business and trade unions at the MV summit today. In addition to the current situation, this should also include possible model openings after Easter in areas with a low incidence. There was such a test balloon in Rostock with Hansa Rostock’s soccer game in front of 777 spectators last Saturday. Tonight, the Volkstheater will celebrate its first premiere in months in front of a tested audience.
Hamburg’s new corona regulation comes this weekend
To extend the lockdown until April 18, a new regulation is to apply in Hamburg this weekend. The Senate wants to adjust the mask requirement. In the future, medical masks will also have to be worn in cars if the occupants come from different households. The mask requirement on the Elbe, Alster and certain parks should not be changed, but the city-wide ban on alcohol consumption in public should be lifted. The Senate now wants to determine the exact places where drinking alcohol will remain prohibited. The new regulation is to be published today and will come into force on Saturday at midnight.
Lower Saxony: State parliament advises on corona policy in a special session
The increasingly controversial corona policy is again the topic of a special session of the Lower Saxony state parliament today. To begin with, Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) wants to issue a government declaration entitled “Lower Saxony in the third wave”. Then, among other things, it will be about two FDP proposals for a strategic change of course and for easier return of the students from distance learning to the classes. The Greens follow up with a request on the subjects of vaccinations and tests, where they accuse the government of negligence. Also the subject of the parliamentary debate will be the country’s new Corona regulation, which is being worked on under extreme time pressure after the back and forth during the Easter lockdown. It should come into force at the weekend. In view of the increasing number of new infections, stricter rules are planned.
365 new cases in Schleswig-Holstein – the incidence rises above 60
In Schleswig-Holstein, 365 new infections with the corona virus were reported within one day. On Friday a week ago there were 289 confirmed new corona cases. The seven-day incidence rose from 59.7 to 62.4 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within one day. 198 corona patients were treated in the hospital, 42 of them in intensive care, 27 of them were ventilated.
