This week, NRW will give the municipal vaccination centers the green light to vaccinate other groups that have not yet had their turn.
- State of North Rhine-Westphalia wants Corona vaccinations more speed do
- More flexibility for municipalities Vaccination start for people over 70 years of age
- Vaccination centers are to increasingly vaccinate the chronically ill after Easter
- NRW Minister of Health: Vaccination start at Family doctors in April
The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia is responding to the demands of numerous vaccination centers to give them more freedom when vaccinating. The centers in Gelsenkirchen, Duisburg, Essen and other cities had, as reported by this editorial team, signaled that fewer and fewer over 80-year-olds were booking appointments and that vaccine was therefore available for other vaccine candidates.
“We will inform the vaccination centers that the entire prioritization group 2 will be released for corona vaccinations. You can also vaccinate other groups than the over 80-year-olds on your own responsibility, ”said NRW Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU) on Wednesday in the state parliament. “Prio 2” (high vaccination priority) includes, for example, people over 70 years of age, people with severe cancer or lung diseases and people with dementia. “I urge the municipalities to keep an eye on the chronically ill in particular,” said Laumann.
Vaccination for groups over 70 is still only available by appointment
Regardless of this, NRW is sticking to its course of writing to people over 70 from the beginning of April – probably immediately after Easter – and informing them about the possibility of booking an appointment in the vaccination centers. But that does not mean that everyone in this age group will have their corona vaccination at the same time.
After the chaotic appointments in February for those over 80 years of age, NRW decided to invite the next age group to book vaccination appointments. At the beginning of April, the 79-year-olds should receive this offer. In addition, the vaccination should start in the family doctor’s office in April. So there are foreseeable several ways to get vaccination offers, side by side
Laumann: NRW does not have a vaccination, but a reporting problem
Laumann in parliament rejected criticism of the poor performance of NRW in the ranking of vaccination progress of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). NRW does not have a vaccination problem, but a reporting problem, especially in the Rhineland. According to reports of vaccinations made available to the RKI by the Westphalia-Lippe Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, NRW is in a good 6th place in a country comparison, the minister said. Judging by the data from KV Nordrhein, NRW is far behind in the ranking.
Laumann also countered the assumption that hundreds of thousands of vaccine doses are dumped in North Rhine-Westphalia and are downright rotten. That is by no means the case. NRW has “nothing to hide” and is delivering vaccination doses quickly. Internationally, however, Germany attracts attention with its vaccination bureaucracy. “With us it is sometimes the case that nine people write and one vaccinates. In other countries nine vaccinate and one writes. “

No vaccines in NRW “on stockpile”
The NRW Ministry of Health contradicted the allegation that the state had vaccination doses “on stockpile” on Wednesday. With regard to the active ingredients of Astrazeneca and Moderna, it can be assumed “that the warehouse will be empty at the end of the week,” said the Ministry of Health on Wednesday. The reserve of Biontech vaccine is also melting – among other things through 279,000 outstanding second vaccinations.
“Vaccination doses are distributed in the country every day, so it happens again and again that a certain amount of vaccination doses remains in the state camp for a short time until it is retrieved,” said Health Minister Laumann in the state parliament. Around 70,000 vaccination doses would be delivered to the vaccination centers in the municipalities every day. On Tuesday 234,000 new vaccination doses arrived in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Vaccination centers also vaccinate at Easter
The Federal Ministry of Health expects the delivery of corona vaccines to pick up significantly after Easter. As emerged on Tuesday from a prognosis by the ministry, up to 15.3 million doses of vaccine could be added across Germany from April 5 to May 1.
With a view to the coming Easter days, the NRW Ministry of Health has announced that the vaccination centers will remain open “as usual” over the Easter holidays. Vaccinations are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.
Meanwhile, the district of Gütersloh announced on Wednesday that the vaccination campaign would accelerate: From this Thursday to Sunday, March 28, all people over the age of 80 could be vaccinated against corona without an appointment; However, vaccination appointments already agreed for April would not be canceled. The reason was a “special contingent” of vaccines from the manufacturer Biontech / Pfizer, which the district vaccination center received at short notice, said District Administrator Sven-Georg Adenauer. In the Ruhr area, too, vaccination centers are now preferring vaccinations or making additional appointments possible for the same reason. (with dpa)
