The corona numbers in Germany continue to rise. The health authorities reported 15,813 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. That is around 2400 cases more than in the previous week. In addition, 248 new deaths were recorded within 24 hours.
Exactly one week ago, the RKI had recorded 13,435 new infections and 249 new deaths within one day. According to the RKI, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants reported within seven days (seven-day incidence) is 108.1 nationwide – and thus exactly the same as the day before.
The RKI has counted 2,690,523 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic. The RKI indicates the number of those who have recovered at around 2,445,300. The total number of people who died with or with a proven Sars-CoV-2 infection rose to 75,212.
In the meantime, the first effects of the vaccinations can be seen in the intensive care units. There are only “very few” corona patients aged 80 and over in intensive care, said Gernot Marx, President of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine Deutschlandfunk.
“The vaccinations really seem to work,” said Marx. “When we have vaccinated those over 65, we will clearly notice an effect.”
