The Apostolic Administrator Peter Bürcher, who was responsible for the diocese until the inauguration of Bonnemain, accepted Grichtig’s resignation. The “chief strategist” of old Bishop Vitus Huonder only retains his office as cathedral chapter.
It appears to be an open question whether Bishop Joseph Bonnemain will appoint a new vicar general. Bonnemain would decide on this “in the near future and after appropriate deliberations,” wrote the diocese.
Bonnemain recently stated that it wanted to promote “able women”. A priest was intended for the office of vicar general, Bonnemain had declared in an interview in the “Sonntagzeitung” after his ordination. “But women could, simply with a different title, take on a similar task.” (SDA)
