SALZBURG. From 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. in Salzburg, the fortress, formative buildings such as the cathedral, the residence or the Mirabell Palace as well as the churches, fountains, monuments and cliffs of the old town remain in the dark.
Earth Hour is celebrated worldwide
“With our participation in the worldwide campaign, we are sending out a signal for climate protection, because striving for more and more and ever bigger exhausts our planet. The Earth Hour is an impetus to pause and at the same time motivates each and every individual to use resources carefully. It also shows politicians the need for resolute efforts to protect the climate, ”said City Councilor Martina Berthold from the green list of citizens.
The “Earth Hour” organized by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) is celebrated by many cities around the world. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, well-known landmarks will slide into the dark for an hour: In Berlin, the lighting of the Brandenburg Gate will be switched off, in Paris the Eiffel Tower will be darkened, in Austria, for example, the Schönbrunn Palace and the Vienna Museum Quarter will remain without lighting.
