Ever Given: Planned unloading of cargo

The excavation of sand in the Suez Canal has not yet brought the desired success.

Kairo. During the work in the Suez Canal, further measures to rescue the wedged container ship are now being considered. President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi has ordered the preparations for the unloading of containers to begin, said the head of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Osama Rabie, on Sunday the broadcaster Extra News.

The salvage experts had originally hoped to get the 400-meter-long Ever Given afloat again without the time-consuming step. First of all, the site should be dug for twelve hours in order to free the transverse ship. Then the tugs should be used for twelve hours.

Ever Given, with 18,300 containers on board, has been blocking the Suez Canal, one of the world’s most important waterways, since last Tuesday. Over the weekend, more than 320 ships jammed at both ends of the canal. (APA / Reuters)
