The number of passengers in global aviation fell by two thirds last year. Almost half of the more than 22,000 aircraft have been taken out of service. This massive market slump left its mark on the leading company FACC in Innviertel in the previous year. Compared to the previous year, sales collapsed around 40 percent to 527 million euros. The result collapsed from 22 million euros in 2019 to minus 74 million euros.
“We got two black eyes in the crisis,” said CEO Robert Machtlinger, commenting on the development. As early as the second half of 2020, management put the brakes on costs and canceled it 650 jobs. “That was the most painful chapter in the history of FACC. It wasn’t easy for me, but it was necessary, ”said Machtlinger today at the virtual annual press conference. As of the 2020 balance sheet date, the group of companies employed 2655 people. Despite the crisis, they have internally prepared for the future and a Strategy 2030 worked out. It does not only envisage growth in the core aircraft segment.
As reported, FACC wants to advance in the areas of urban transport (using drones) and space travel. With an equity ratio of 37 percent, the company is solidly positioned and equipped for future growth. In the main aviation market, Machtlinger expects the markets to stabilize in the course of the second half of 2021. In the third quarter, the construction rates of aircraft manufacturers are expected to slowly increase again.
