In Leipzig, critics demonstrate against the Corona measures with several car parades. According to previous estimates, significantly fewer people than expected took part in the protests.
Opponents of the corona measures were able to mobilize far fewer people for their protest in Leipzig than announced. The police spoke on Saturday afternoon in an initial estimate of about 350 vehicles at the various motorcades that had also made their way to the trade fair city from other cities in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. Around 1,000 vehicles were registered. The participants had pinned posters on the car windows and criticized the vaccinations, for example.

In Limbach-Oberfrohna (Zwickau district), the parade started around 11.15 a.m., as the police informed. There was talk of around 60 vehicles. A planned motorcade from Halle, on the other hand, was blocked by counter-demonstrators shortly after the start and the journey was finally canceled. According to the police, around 50 vehicles made their way from Naumburg – and thus far fewer than the registered 250. In Dresden, 45 instead of the forecast more than 100 vehicles were mentioned.

According to the police, a car parade in Plauen was canceled by the organizer in the morning. The assembly authorities were advised of around 200 participants for this purpose. Because of the high corona incidence in Vogtland, only one route in the region had been approved for him.
Counter-protest by bike and motorcycle
According to the police, several participants had masked their license plates at a starting point in Leipzig-Grünau. The emergency services had taken action against this, it said. According to initial estimates, more than 1,000 people in the city took part in a counter-protest. Under the motto “slow down lateral thinking”, they made their way to Augustusplatz in the center by bike and motorcycle from different parts of the city. There was a rally there in the afternoon, which, according to the police, ended around 2:20 p.m.

According to the police, participants in a bicycle parade tried to take an unauthorized route. “The action is clear at the moment,” said a police spokesman in the afternoon. The people of Leipzig had obviously also adjusted to the traffic obstructions.
Last November, a demonstration by critics of the Corona measures in Leipzig got out of hand and caused a stir nationwide. Tens of thousands of participants had gathered in the city center and violated Corona requirements by the dozen. When the city finally disbanded the meeting, the demonstrators forced a march across the Leipzig inner city ring, although this had been forbidden.
