Figure skating world championship: qualification for the Olympics –

On Wednesday things will get serious for figure skater Miriam Ziegler. The Stooberin (Oberpullendorf district) and her partner Severin Kiefer are in action for the first time at the World Championships in Stockholm. The World Cup is particularly important this time, as it offers the first opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games next February.

Of course it would be nice to confirm the World Cup place from 2019, but the main goal this time is to get the quota place for the Olympics, said Miriam Ziegler. A top ten place should easily be enough for the Olympic ticket. In 2019 at the World Cup in Japan there was tenth place for the two. It is difficult to predict where Miriam Ziegler and her performance level partner will be this year.

There were hardly any competitions. The last of the two was the state championship in mid-December. But the feeling on the ice fits. “We noticed that we made a big leap in training and we feel well prepared for the circumstances,” said Ziegler.

World Cup begins with a short program

However, the preparation in Berlin did not go optimally. Severin Kiefer was struggling with groin problems. A competition in The Hague was canceled as a precaution. “We can now train quite well. We managed the balance between stress and recovery very well – that’s why we are confident that we will do quite well at the World Cup, ”said Ziegler.

The World Cup begins on Wednesday evening with the short program. 24 couples are at the start. It is the turn of Miriam Ziegler and Severin Kiefer with start number 19.
