It is the start of Joachim Löw’s (61) farewell tour, which should end with a successful European Championship. At the press conference at the beginning of the first international break of the year on Monday lunchtime (March 22), DFB sports director Oliver Bierhoff (52) announced an innovation at the DFB.
- The national team is going into the first international break of the year
- For the first time, a teacher for teenagers Florian Wirtz will also be there
- On Thursday, Germany’s national team coach Joachimg Löw will meet Iceland in Duisburg
Because the two teenagers Florian Wirtz (17) and Jamal Musiala (18) are in the DFB squad for the first time, a teacher is also on board in the DFB delegation. Because Wirtz, who was born in Pulheim, is still cramming for his Abitur. “In principle, there are always teachers with the junior national teams,” explained Bierhoff.
Now Wirtz is providing a DFB novelty. When he arrived in Düsseldorf, he looked super cool, like an old DFB hand: with a modern boxer haircut, a shirt by rapper Tupac Shakur, who was murdered in 1996, and a luxury vest from Moncler (approx. 600 euros).

In terms of sport, the two are a promise for the future for Bierhoff. “They are both very mature for their age,” said the sports director. The two attacking midfielders could play at the highest level.
The international match trip, which begins today in the team hotel “Lindner Congress” in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel, has two different symbols. On the one hand, it will be about qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar from Thursday and on the other, Löw will be about to get impressions for the European Championship. The international matches against Iceland (Thursday, 8.45 p.m., RTL), Romania (March 28, 8.45 p.m., RTL) and on March 31st against North Macedonia (8.45 p.m., RTL). (eha)
