After two jumpers, the German team had to tremble for a place on the podium. But then came Markus Eisenbichler. With a sensational distance he led the DSV to number one, but held his knee.

The German ski jumpers won the last team world cup of the season. In Planica, Slovenia, the quartet won ahead of the teams from Japan and Austria. Fourth place went to host Slovenia. Markus Eisenbichler, who jumped 235.5 meters, stood out among the DSV eagles. Due to the cancellation of jumping on Saturday the competition took place with only one round.

“Eisei” led the team around Karl Geiger, Pius Paschke and Constantin Schmid, who won with a margin of 9.5 points. But despite the victory, national coach Stefan Horngacher had a few worry lines on his forehead after the competition.

Because during his sensational jump, Markus Eisenbichler had slight problems landing. The 29-year-old held his knee, then hobbled. “I noticed a sting, but after 15 minutes of movement it went again,” he said after jumping.

Eisenbichler is suffering from a tear in the inner ligament and had long considered whether he should travel to Planica at all.
