Callie Rogers (33) got rich in one fell swoop: when she was 16, she won the lottery the equivalent of around 2.3 million francs in 2003. 18 years later there is nothing left of the money – on the contrary: Rogers even has to receive social assistance today.
But that’s not all: the ex-millionaire had to go to court on Wednesday. There, the mother of four children had to answer for a car accident that she had caused while under the influence of drugs.
With coke at the wheel
In December 2020, Rogers is out with her boyfriend at the time, Jason Fearon (31), in their Hyundai 4×4, shortly after 1 a.m. The woman under the influence of cocaine suddenly loses control of her vehicle and crashes into the fence of a local farmer in Crosby (Great Britain), writes the “Sun”.
Around 1:20 a.m., a police officer happened to drive past the scene of the accident. When he stops to help the couple, Rogers and Fearon flee. The two fugitives can be caught that same night.
Ticket withdrawal and curfew
When she was arrested, the woman resisted so much that the police had to put her out of action with a load of pepper spray. A drug test proves that Rogers was under cocaine while driving.
The court withdrew the 33-year-old’s ticket on Wednesday and gave her an 11-week night curfew, which was checked electronically.
400,000 francs for designer clothes
Rogers, now unbound, lived for years after winning the lottery in 2003. She threw wild parties, bought designer clothes worth almost 400,000 francs, bought drugs and had her breasts enlarged three times.
But others also benefited from winning the lottery, because Rogers gave away their money to family and friends, but unfortunately also to many who took advantage of it. She is said to have spent almost 250,000 francs on her ex-friends. With her sudden wealth, the young woman also attracted envious people: In 2018, the then 30-year-old was beaten to hospital by two women.
Today Roger’s glamorous life is a thing of the past: The mother of four children has to receive social assistance to make ends meet, continues the “Sun”. “I was too young and too naive when I won the money. I couldn’t handle the responsibility, even if many tried to make me see my senses, ”she told the newspaper. Rogers asked the lottery officials to raise the age limit for paying out the sum to 18 years. (une)
