Italy: Police find volatile Mafia member through YouTube cooking videos

Dhe Italian police tracked down a volatile Mafia member through his cooking videos on the YouTube video platform. The 53-year-old had led a quiet life in the Dominican Republic under the name Marc, the police said on Monday. He betrayed himself through videos on YouTube in which he and his wife demonstrated their cooking skills and presented Italian recipes.

In everyday life he paid close attention to where he was moving and was like a ghost to the investigators. And in the videos he did not show his face, but showed his tattoos, the police said. The man had been on the run since 2014 after Italian prosecutors ordered his arrest. The 53-year-old had traded cocaine on behalf of the ‘Ndrangheta in the Netherlands.

He was arrested last Wednesday during an Interpol action in the Dominican Republic. He landed with a plane at Milan airport on Monday.

The Calabrian ‘Ndrangheta is considered one of the most powerful and violent Mafia organizations in Italy. It controls much of the cocaine that enters Europe.
