Palma Where do German vacationers who tested positive for the corona virus before returning from Mallorca have to spend the necessary quarantine? Those who want can stay for free in one of the hotels specially set up on the island for the infected.
The “Mallorca-Zeitung” reported on Sunday, citing information from the regional Ministry of Health. All that is required is the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Those who prefer to stay in their hotel or holiday apartment have to pay for it themselves.
For many vacationers, the question does not arise anyway, the newspaper quoted Tui spokesman Aage Dünhaupt. The costs of their accommodation during a quarantine would be covered by additional insurance that is part of the travel package. Other tour operators would offer similar coverage, the newspaper wrote.
From Tuesday, all passengers traveling to Germany from abroad must have themselves tested for the virus before departure. According to the German regulations, those who are positive are not even allowed into the machine.
The federal government removed the Germans’ favorite island from the list of corona risk areas on March 14. This also lifted the Federal Foreign Office’s travel warning. The move was made because the number of new infections there had fallen below 50 per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days. This also eliminates quarantine and initially the obligation to test when returning to Germany.
When bookings rose sharply, the federal government issued an urgent warning against vacation trips to the Mediterranean island. In addition, compulsory testing was ordered. This also applies to travelers who do not come from a risk area, i.e. also to Mallorca returnees, and should initially be retained until May 12th.
