Snowboard: Pomagalski had a fatal accident
Julie Pomagalski died on Tuesday at the age of 40 in an avalanche accident on Gemsstock in the canton of Uri. This was confirmed by the French Olympic Committee. Together with her guide Bruno Cutelli, the French woman was hit by an avalanche. Both could only be recovered dead. Pomagalski had become world champion in boardercross in 1999, but she also started with alpine snowboarders. In 2004 she triumphed in the overall World Cup. By the end of her career in 2007, Pomagalski had collected 34 World Cup podiums, 11 of them in boardercross. In 2002 and 2006 she took part in the Olympic Games.
