One of them is enthusiastic about goods test
Good WLAN speakers are available from 170 euros
WLAN loudspeakers are no longer a niche product for technology enthusiasts, the devices are already in many homes and the range is growing steadily. In contrast to Bluetooth speakers, you only need a smartphone for control purposes, and you can stream the music independently from the Internet or your home network – even when the mobile phone is out of range.
Some devices also have connections for other players and more and more often you can also use the voice assistants from Google or Amazon with them. Stiftung Warentest has tested 13 larger WLAN loudspeakers that can also be used in living rooms as solo entertainers.
Clear test winner
The clear overall winner with a quality rating of 1.7 was the Sonos Five, which can be had from 490 euros. It impressed the testers with the best tone, which they even rated better than 1 (0.9). The US top dog’s loudspeaker sounds “powerful, balanced and dynamic,” they write. Sonos also offers the best app control and two fives can form a strong stereo pair.
The second place is occupied by the Bowers & Wilkins Formation Flex, the loudspeaker, which costs around 415 euros, received an overall rating of 2.0. Warentest praises its “quite balanced tone without discoloration.” They also like its compact format and that no user account is required for its use – which does not apply to streaming services used.
Strong price-performance winner
The cheapest test candidate landed in third place, making it the clear price-performance winner. Of the Yamaha Musiccast 20 costs only 173 euros, but is also the most versatile device with many different music sources. It “sounds clear and quite neutral, but slightly cool,” write the testers.
The best wireless speaker with digital assistant is the Harman Kardon Citation 500. With a price of around 630 euros, it is also the most expensive test candidate. It was just rated as good with an overall grade of 2.5, although it is the only device with a very good sound (1.0) besides the test winner. On the one hand, this is due to the fact that the testers only rated the handling, versatility and power consumption as satisfactory. In addition, as with all devices with a voice assistant, they find data protection only sufficient with him.
If you are looking for a cheap speaker with digital assistance and good sound (2.2), you can go to the Amazon Echo Studio grab, which costs just under 200 euros. For the Harman Kardon Citation 200 you have to shell out around 100 euros more. On the other hand, its sound is a little better (1.8) and the device is also a Bluetooth speaker with an integrated battery.
