The record is now set – again by an NES game. This is Super Mario Bros. The game is in its original packaging, never opened and was rated 9.6 out of 10, which is considered “almost as good as new”.
The highest bid is currently $ 310,000. Added to this is the auction commission, which means that the buyer would have to pay $ 376,000 for the game.
It’s not the earliest version of Super Mario Bros from 1985, but it is one of the earliest copies of the game with the cardboard box shrink-wrapped in plastic. This version was only sold for a short period in late 1986. Valarie McLeckie, video game specialists at Heritage Auctions, assumes that fewer than 10 Super Mario Bros originally shrink-wrapped exist.
The correct auction for the game has not yet started. The bids submitted so far are advance bids. The live auction will take place from April 1st to 4th.
