In Indonesia, a shipwrecked man was rescued alive after two weeks at sea. The 18-year-old fisherman held onto a wooden plank the entire time.
An Indonesian survived two weeks on the open sea just clinging to a wooden plank in the water. The 18-year-old was about 14 days ago with six other fishermen off the coast of the island of Bali when the boat was rammed by a ship, said Krisna Maharta, a spokesman for the rescue services of Bali, on Friday. The boat overturned as a result.
On Tuesday, the young man was finally discovered and rescued near the island of Sulawesi. He held onto the only thing left of the boat – a wooden plank.
The other fishermen also initially survived and clung to the plank, but gradually drowned, it was said. So far, however, only one body has been recovered, the five other men are missing.
