In the summer of last year, the emergency doctors saved the life of the opposition politician Alexei Navalny after he was poisoned. Now a second doctor involved is also dead.
A second doctor who treated the Russian opposition politician after he was poisoned has died.
The head of the emergency department of the Omsk hospital was 63 years old, his boss 53.
Alexei Navalny and his supporters accuse the Russian government of being behind the attack.
After another participating doctor (53) died in February, the hospital in which the two worked now reports the death of the head of the emergency ward Rustam Agishev (63). The head of the Traumatology and Orthopedics department had already suffered a stroke last December. The two doctors had saved the life of the Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny after he was poisoned last summer.
About a month ago it became known that the chief physician of the hospital in the Siberian city of Omsk Sergei Maximischin died unexpectedly. He was only 53 years old. Because of their functions, both Agischew and Maximischin knew Navalny’s medical files very well. As “CNN” reported at the time, Maximischin had died of a heart attack.
Alexei Navalny complains about torture in the prison camp
Alexei Navalny collapsed on a plane last August during a domestic flight from Tomsk, in Siberia, to Moscow. He could only be saved because of the courageous intervention of other passengers and the doctors on site. After several weeks of rehab in Germany, he returned to Russia in January of this year and was promptly arrested. He was charged with missing a hearing for violating probation requirements.
The 44-year-old Navalny is the Kremlin’s most prominent critic and President Vladimir Putin. In 2018 he ran for office himself. In 2013 he wanted to become mayor of Moscow. A court in Moscow sentenced him to three and a half years in prison on his return in February, of which he was sentenced to two and a half years in a prison camp. Recently, reports increased that Navalny had physical complaints and was prevented from sleeping.
From exile in Germany, the recovered Navalny had declared after his poisoning that he had been poisoned by the Russian secret service FSB, which an independent research confirmed. Nawalny’s team then published a documentary that showed Putin’s huge private residence and accused the president of corruption.
