BERLIN – Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) expects sufficient capacity for tests in Germany quickly after the new Corona resolutions. He referred on Thursday in the ARD “Morgenmagazin” to rapid tests and the self-tests that are now available.

“We want to use both of these possibilities in order to develop more leeway for openings with a comprehensive test strategy,” said Scholz, who is the Federal Minister of Finance.

“There are a lot of test offers that can be procured,” said Scholz when asked whether there would be enough capacity quickly. “And that’s why I assume that after a short transition phase, which must necessarily follow this decision, enough ordered tests will be available everywhere and that these test centers, which can then be set up, will also be able to work with the tests.” He added that “at some point and on a large scale there will also be self-tests,” which are very helpful when used in schools, for example.

He welcomed the resolutions of the top-level meeting of the federal and state governments for a fundamental extension of the lockdown to March 28 and simultaneous opening options depending on the infection situation.
Regarding reports of friction with Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder, Scholz said: “I am responsible for ensuring that our country functions well and that the money is kept together. And if you are not prepared to endure a somewhat rough situation, you are out of place. ”
