SAALBACH HINTERGLEMM. After the downhill run was canceled on Friday due to the weather, the sun shone today as compensation for the second downhill race in Saalbach. Thanks to the night-time work of the piste crew, a World Cup track worthy of the World Cup was prepared after yesterday’s snowfall. The Zwölferkogel showed itself from its best side on Saturday with perfect weather and ideal conditions.
Since the World Cup in Cortina seems Vincent Kriechmayr to have opened the button. This year’s downhill world champion was able to continue his triumphant advance in Saalbach: “I had a great feeling and I am very satisfied. It was important to find a good line and not push too much. I just drove cleanly and was able to take a lot of speed. ”He looks calmly towards the Super G on Sunday:“ It’s a new day, a different discipline, a new race. The others are also very strong, but I will give 100 percent and see what happens. ”
“It was difficult against Vincent today, but I tried. The piste was great to ski and it was fun, ”says Beat Feuz. Small teething problems put him in second place. “I lost the stick and my little finger slipped in my glove.” At the World Cup final in his home country, the decision about the crystal ball is still open, albeit with a clear advantage for the Swiss.
Matthias mayer also landed on the podium again in Saalbach. He is satisfied with 3rd place, but is realistic about the World Cup final in two weeks: “It was a great race for me today. Vincent and Beat had a perfect run. I tried my best, but they were both faster. There is still one race to come. In theory, it is still possible for me to win the overall World Cup. But basically you can already congratulate Beat, ”he says in the ORF interview.
It continues in Saalbach Hinterglemm on Sunday, March 7th, at 10:30 a.m. with the Super G.
