The US social media group Snap is buying the Berlin startup Fit Analytics, whose machine learning application “Fit Finder” recommends clothing and shoes of the right size to customers when shopping online. Fit Finder is intended to help make Snapchat more of an e-commerce platform where users can buy clothes directly.

“With Snap, we will not only continue to serve our existing customers, we will also deepen relationships with our brand partners and retailers. In the future, our focus will be on expanding Snap’s purchasing platform with our technology and know-how, ”says Fit Analytics.

With Fit Finder, users have to provide certain information about their body measurements. You have to choose the right one from a selection of different proportions. Using machine learning, the app’s algorithm has learned to offer appropriate recommendations for clothing purchases. This is intended to enable consumers to immediately find suitable clothing items when ordering online, which is intended to reduce the number of returns.

New e-commerce features

Neither Snap nor Fit Analytics have given precise details about the price of the takeover. More than 100 Fit Analytics employees will work for Snap from Berlin in the future.
